Holstein Kiel is starting the renovation of the Holstein Stadium. The north stand is being demolished and will be replaced by a new main stand by 2028. On Tuesday, the first seats were removed. Kiel's mayor Samet Yilmaz and State Chancellery chief Dirk Schrödter were present. Yilmaz spoke of a historic moment. The renovation begins with the north stand, where the first seats were removed. The construction workers will remove the remaining seats by the end of the week. The standing areas will follow. By early August, the north stand will be gone. The spectators will then look out onto the construction site. Those who previously had a season ticket on the north stand will receive an email with an alternative seat offer in mid-June. The new main stand is expected to be completed by March 2028. It will be the heart of the new stadium. The technology, VIP areas, media workspaces, and team cabins will be located there. Axel Bauerdorf, the managing director of the Kiel Sports Facilities and Stadium Company, hopes that the approval will be granted by the end of the year. Then construction can begin directly. By 2030, the new Holstein Stadium is expected to be completed and will offer space for around 22,000 fans. By expanding two corners, the capacity can be increased to up to 25,000 if needed.
